ARTSUBS 2026 | BORDER, THRESHOLD, BEYOND | Contemporary Art Exhibition | 100+ Artist

ARTSUBS will return in 2026 always as a large-scale contemporary art exhibition in Indonesia. In its previous editions, ARTSUBS took the public on an artistic journey through the themes of Ways of Dreaming in 2024, and Material Ways in 2025. Through these themes, the exhibition invited reflection through the mapping of contemporary art practices, presenting more than 300 art works by around 120 artists. This year, ARTSUBS continues the journey by revisiting sources of inspiration in contemporary art, enriching inner experience and reflecting on a rapidly changing world that constantly generates new possibilities.

ARTSUBS consistently presents a wide range of rapidly evolving visual explorations and creative practices. These already-big art show needs to be further expanded—both in scope and depth of meaning—so they can become an organic part of society. This effort is closely related to the development of the creative economy and strengthening critical awareness in Indonesia. Held in Surabaya—the second-largest city in Indonesia, rich in historical, cultural heritage as well as economic strength—ARTSUBS aims to support the development of a sustainable art ecosystem in which artistic practice contributes to creativity, imagination, social awareness and the broader creative industry.
