MATERIAL WAYS

ARTSUBS 2025, held at Balai Pemuda Surabaya from October 25 to November 23, 2025, presented Material Ways: Ragam Jalan Materi, a contemporary art exhibition featuring more than 130 Indonesian artists who explored materiality as a language rather than merely a medium of expression. Through diverse artistic practices spanning painting, sculpture, photography, video, found objects, industrial materials, natural elements, and digital technologies, the exhibition reflected the evolving relationship between art, society, and the realities of a post-industrial world. By embracing the plurality of contemporary artistic approaches, Material Ways invited audiences to reconsider how materials shape meaning, perception, and everyday experience, while offering a space for reflection amid accelerating consumption, technological transformation, and the expanding intersections between physical and virtual life.
